Peru’s Health Minister César Vásquez Sánchez adopts a countrywide DENGUE prevention program and declares a state of health emergency for the dengue viral fever epidemic. The decision was made during a council of ministers chaired by President Dina Boluarte.
As of today, the state of emergency affects 20 out of 25 regions in the country. It is believed that during the months of March and April DENGUE will be on the rise throughout the country but that, in 2024, there are countries such as Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay that are in a more complex situation than Peru. The situation in the country is as follows: in more than 83 percent of the territory, cases of the disease are increasing, but precisely because of the health emergency decree, funds from the public budget will be allocated to combat this virosis and other insect-borne diseases.”
Dengue data
There is an increase in cases of almost 100 percent compared to the same period last year when there were 12,624. Deaths from diseases related to dengue infection are already 32 compared to 18 last year.
The best prevention is vaccination, already marketed in Europe but not yet in Peru.

HOW THE DISEASE IS TRANSMITTED
Aedes mosquitoes carry the disease and are the cause of disease transmission. Man is the reservoir, the carrier of the virus; the mosquito bites the infected man, bites another healthy man, and spreads the virus and the disease. For this reason, the Peruvian Ministry of Health has initiated a program to train fumigation teams that will have to enter homes and private and public environments and disinfest mosquito breeding sites. Information campaigns will also be organized for the population. Several dozen drones with precision cameras will be used to monitor at-risk environments with stagnant water where the insect vectors nest and proliferate. For the vaccine, the Ministry of Health has expressed interest and orders have been placed. The Pan American Health Organization has placed Peru on a waiting list.
